It regulates refrigerant production, import, equipment sales, installation, operation, maintenance and end-of-life recovery. It also limits the climate impact of refrigerants by reducing the availability of hydrofluorocarbons, or HFCs.<\/p>\n<p>In the European Union, the main legal instrument is Regulation (EU) 2024\/573 on fluorinated greenhouse gases. It entered into force on 11 March 2024 and replaced Regulation (EU) No 517\/2014. It applies directly in EU countries, including Austria, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland and Finland. Switzerland uses separate national refrigerant rules.<\/p>\n<p>The Regulation does not prohibit heat pumps as a technology. It changes which refrigerants and heat pump categories may be placed on the market. matters<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2673\" data-end=\"2842\">The Regulation affects much more than environmental reporting. It influences product availability, procurement, installation, maintenance and long-term service planning.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2844\" data-end=\"3278\">A heat pump can operate efficiently but still create a compliance risk if its refrigerant or equipment category is affected by a market prohibition. An installed system can remain operational but become more expensive or difficult to service if its refrigerant supply declines. Refrigerants are regulated under Annex 2.10 of the Chemical Risk Reduction Ordinance, commonly referred to as ORRChem or ChemRRV. It also uses R290 and can reach flow temperatures of up to 70\u00b0C. Its controls support PV and energy-storage integration.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"56321\" data-end=\"56556\">Using R290 avoids dependence on the HFC quota system and the heat pump product prohibitions directed at F-gases. It does not remove the need for correct product design, siting, flammability control, installation and service competence.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"56558\" data-end=\"56913\">iDM\u2019s energy-management approach can also integrate the heat pump with weather forecasts, variable electricity prices, PV generation, predicted hot water demand and the thermal behaviour of the building.
